Who Am I?

I'm an educator with a background in journalism and law. Graduating with a doctorate of jurispru

dence two decades ago was a life altering experience, but the title of mommy is what makes me proudest. Both roles help when navigating dyslexia accommodations for both 504 students and those with individualized educational plans. Unfortunately, it makes me critical of school administrators who promise helpful accommodations on paper, but fail to provide it.

There had to be a better way of doing things. I wanted so desperately to change how dyslexia intervention was implemented at my school, but my efforts were unsuccessful. Our program was ineffective and students showed minimal progress until I reevaluated the situation.

To put it plain and simple, I created new reading materials and incorporated assistive technology into our lessons. When my students began to read more fluently and write without tears, I knew that I was onto something special. I had rediscovered my motivation and inspiration, which led to a new challenge.

I'm opening Essential Bookstore, which is a high-concept bookstore dedicated to selling books from the African diaspora and providing literacy instruction for Dyslexia. With our new app, educational platform, and technology, adult and children learners will finally receive the necessary tools to successfully help them develop the joy of reading.

So excuse me if my grin is as wide as Texas. I have a lot to be excited about with the publication of my first book and the opening of a hyper-personalized book shop that includes a high-tech literacy center for adults and children. Wouldn't you be smiling too?

Constructing A New Me

The year of 2022 was full of joy. I entered into a new, bold path of entrepreneurship and began the process of opening a high-concept bookstore and literacy center. Not only will it feature my very own novel, Taking An L, but also Essential Bookstore will sell works from authors throughout the African diaspora. The following images express my joyful exuberance now that I finally understand my purpose in life.

Taking An L

Summer 2023

Taking An L is an urban fantasy romance novel about Tiffani Clark, a single mom gifted with extra sensory perception, who becomes a billionaire philanthropist on a divine mission to protect marginalized groups from genocide. After years of being alone, she suffers from an extreme case of pistanthrophobia. This fear of trusting others jeopardizes the mission and frustrates others who want the best for her, including the handsome new love interest seemingly heaven sent. Will she finally learn to forgive and trust others, or will many lives be sacrificed because of her petty and immature behavior?
